One step at a time..

So it's been a while. I've been so busy with the rest of my life I've neglected this blog for too long now. I need to remind myself to keep with it and make this stuff happen.
I need to figure out how to handle stress a little better, and I'm going to admit this.. here in front of the world. I miss my wife. She's working at a summer camp and is gone for 8 days a time. When she's home I hardly get to see her because of my other obligations and my never ending quest to make enough money to survive.

On a brighter note, I proudly exclaimed to the world that when I started the Birthday Boy project that I was going to start exercising and get myself into better shape for when I have surgery. I started to exercise pretty regularly about 2 weeks ago and I'm very happy to announce that I can now do 3 pushups and I've lost 15 pounds. I'm pretty proud of myself and I thought you all should know.

Another really awesome note: Joe strikes again. I can't thank him enough for all the help he's given me and the motivation to just keep going. In the mail today I received an envelope stuffed full of really cool robot stickers. If you're interested in having one of your very own you can find one here.

Shopping at Birthday Boy Fundraising

Tell me if this price is unreasonable and I'll change it. My goal was to still come out ahead after wepay takes their 3.something percent.

Once again, thanks everyone for your support.

Life certainly has a way of happening.

It's been a little while here since I posted at all. Viewing activity has been pretty steady here on the blog. Very few days of 0 views. I'm pretty excited about that.

My life has taken a crazy turn, with a new schedule and somehow all kinds of things happening. I've had very few opportunities to just stop and rest. I'm very tired.

This post is my promise to use every free second I have to make some fun stuff happen here. To finally get the store up and maybe get an event in the planning stages. Basically to take care of the things I've been neglecting due to a lack of time for myself.

Until next time.. stay tuned..

Everybody Dance

It finally happened..
Last night I got my first donation..

A giant thank you to Adam and Rachel of Modesto California.
I'll make sure your $25 gets a great home, and that you get something awesome in your mailbox!

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone else who has donated time to reposting links and saying nice things and to extend my appreciation to everyone that has subscribed. On the same note, if you're reading this, thank you for taking a minute to check things out.

About Me

It's been brought to my attention several times today that I'm lacking an explanation of who I am.
I guess I just think that everyone already knows me. For those of you that don't, I've compiled a compact story of how I became who I am. I truly encourage everyone to contact me and get to know me a little. I'm thrilled to answer questions and make friends.

Without further adieu..

Suck It, Paypal..

Ok, hectic weekend over and done with. Time to relax for a couple days and do it all over again.

So if you'll all look to the right, I've got a new widget over there from a place much better than paypal.
I know it'll be a pain to sign up with them (maybe it won't be, I know how reluctant I am to take the 12 seconds to create a new account) but I promise it'll be worth it.
I set the "end date" of the campaign to my birthday of next year (10/01/2013) so this thing will count down the days to my birthday and also show everyone how much money I've raised so far. I thought it was pretty sweet.

EDIT: In messing with the donation widget, for some reason it's default is $50, which is cool and all, but totally not necessary. To donate any amount, make sure you type it in the box before you hit the button.

Other good news: You don't even need to create an account, so that's one less worry for me.

The original rules still apply; donations of $10 or more will receive, in the mail, an 8x10 photograph of me, and I'll write you a handwritten letter to go along with it. So make sure, if you donate, to shoot me an email with your mailing address.

Speaking of sending me mailing addresses, all subscribers send me mailing addresses and prepare for awesome in your mailbox.

Paypal Strikes Again

I woke up this morning to a wonderful email from paypal.
In my valliant attempt to reward you for your kindness with gifts, paypal has decided that I might be in violation of their acceptable use policy. So that settles it. I won't be sharing my money with them.

To my friend in risk management at paypal: Thanks, buddy. Obviously my unacceptable behavior hadn't worked yet anyway and you guys wouldn't have been involved with the potential future events anyway. Consider yourself un-associated. Thanks for making this way harder than it already is.

Good News

I'll admit I was starting to get a little discouraged at my personal progress on this project. I wanted to have more things available by the time I posted on facebook. During the test phase a couple of very supportive friends posted it for me and I can't thank them enough. The amount of people that took a second to check things out made me feel much better about it all.

In other news, I got 2 subscribers! I know it's still early on but I can't express how truly excited I am about it. I'm gift happy right now and so thankful to see a positive response that I'd like both of my subscribers to email me a mailing address and I'll get some fun things in the mail for you guys. You'll find my email address to your right in the contact box.

Also, I finally got an email back from paypal about my account review. Honestly I must have made a mistake somewhere and triggered a crazy review of my account. I emailed them to ask a few questions about "my account" and then "account information" and they sent me an email back about how to change my email address. I was angry that I got an automated email and shot back a strongly worded email to, what I thought was an automated system. I guess a human somewhere actually read it and reviewed my account further.

I am now happy to report that my paypal account is ready to rock... at least I think so.

Thanks Joe!

Upon hearing about my fundraising idea, my friend Joe made me the banner above and it's pretty sweet.
I'll be sending Joe a gift in the near future for his generous contribution of graphics.

Stay tuned for fun photos and new content.

If you have cool ideas or things you want to see, please contact me.

Let's keep moving

I got a couple random graphics up today. They're not my best work, but they're pretty sweet. I've also added that cool "Donate" button to your right in my contact box. I've set that up so you can put in whatever amount you want.

Until I get an actual solid store set up, I'm just going to toss this out here..

Donations of  $10 or more will receive in the mail a decent quality 8x10 of me with a personalized letter. So make sure you punch your mailing address in for me.

I think I'm ready to put this b#%* up on facebook and see how we do.

Mission Statement

Hello everyone. I'm sure you're all wondering what's happening here, so I'll explain.

I'll be 30 on the 1st of October, 2013 and I've decided what I want for my 30th birthday. It's a pretty expensive gift so I need some help. It's also a life changing gift and I hope by the end of this explanation I'll have your support.

In 2003 I began my transition. It's been a pretty bumpy ride, but I've survived. I said, long ago, that I would find a way to have top surgery by the time I was 30 and I'm now running out of time. I need your help to make this happen.

I intend to create many ways for you to help. From just plain dollar amount donations, to donated artwork for sale, to a store that will print my fun ideas onto even more fun items and ship them to you where I'll receive a percentage of the sale.

The "plain donation" section sounds a little boring, but I promise you it won't be. You'll still wind up with something cool that'll show my appreciation for your support.

Once my fund fills up a bit, I can start using it to fund fun events. Some of the ideas that have come up for really fun fundraising events are:

-Competitive cook/bake off
We'll have a panel of judges, fun prizes, the obligatory raffle for much cooler stuff than raffles usually offer.

-Big girl beauty pageant
Again a panel of judges, fun prizes, again the obligatory awesome raffle. Also one beautiful girl will be crowned queen of the event and will walk away with something extra cool. It'll also be an awesome comfortable place for big girls to feel safe, totally accepted, and most of all beautiful.

-Giant karaoke party
Maybe this time we'll do crowd voting on their favorite singer of the evening. The crowd favorite will wind up taking something awesome home and we'll keep with the cool raffle.

All of these events will have a poster/flyer contest, so get your Photoshop warmed up and get ready.

My vision includes inexpensive ways to help out someone who's working hard to have the best 30th birthday ever. I also truly believe that with even more hard work and a collective effort, we can keep this thing rolling and help other people get great birthday gifts in the future.

What I need from you in the present moment, is to spread me around the internet. Get everyone you know involved. Whether it's general feedback, ideas for events or things you'd want if I had them available.
My email address should be around here somewhere. Feel free to email me or leave me a comment. Most important please, subscribe to this blog and keep an eye on it. It's going to change every day.

...I'm kind of thinking about handing out gifts to milestone subscribers (1, 5, 10 etc..)
